BLOGMAS Day 24: A.K.A the Last One... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hello everyone!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I can't believe we're here! 24 days and 16 blogposts later, BLOGMAS is finished! What started off as a little project for myself has turned into something so much more. I am actually very proud of myself for what I have achieved these last 3 weeks. I wrote a blogpost at least 5 days a week, but not only that, I have started to receive feedback from people! Thank you so much for everyone who has commented or messaged me with all your positivity and words of encouragement. You're the real stars here!

Christmas is finally here! The big man is on his way as I write this, and I probably should get to sleep. But before I do that, I thought I would write one last post for BLOGMAS in true Fifs style...
I had an amazing Christmas Eve! I spent the morning baking cakes and cupcakes, helped my mam tidy the house and get dinner ready. And that dinner was something else! You know how Christmas Eve is more important than Christmas Day in France? Well, I have a French uncle who is married to my mam's sister. They both came in for Christmas Eve dinner and we had it French style: plenty of food, breaks in between courses, laughter, chat and plenty of wine! We even popped open a bottle of champagne at midnight to celebrate the birth of Christ. After opening up a present each, it was time for bed.
Except I am still awake writing this!

I better go now though.. I think I can hear those sleigh bells jingling on the roof.....

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 22: Update and 3 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!

Hello everyone!

I know, I know... I haven't been great at the old BLOGMAS the last few days... and by the last few days I mean 4... plus the others I missed in between..

To be fair, this was a challenge I set myself to see if I could actually do it. And surprisingly, I've done better than I thought I would! Pat on the back!
The reason I haven't been around the last few days is because I have been super busy! It was my best friend's 21st Saturday night, so all day Saturday I was very busy getting ready, sorting out her presents and helping my mam tidy the house a bit. Sunday, I spent the day in front of the television watching movies, eating fatty food and drinking lots and lots of tea! And yesterday, I was working!
However, I'm back on track for the last 3 days! And that's a promise!!

On a brighter note, THREE DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!! And it's finally starting to feel like Christmas! I've just finished wrapping presents with my dad, I've planned some visits to family, I've met up with friends for a sneaky hot chocolate, I've watched Christmas movies, I've done some Christmas baking, and I'm currently writing this while wearing a Santa hat! 🎅
We're having a fancy dinner in our house Christmas Eve with my aunt and uncle, so it's been all go with cleaning the house these days. I have my day planned out for Christmas Eve with baking. I've also organised to go visit my goddaughter Christmas Eve to give her her present. Things are looking up for me this Christmas after all!

I promise to have a post up tomorrow!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 18: 'Frozen' inspired cupcakes! #BakingWithFifs

Hello everyone!

Do you wanna make some cupcakes? Come on let's go and bake!

I finally did some Christmas baking!! And what better way to start the Christmas baking season than with some Disney inspired cupcakes? It also gave me a chance to try out my new Wilton products which I was more than excited to use.

Ingredients:
140g baking butter
140g castor sugar
140g self-raising flour
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Wilton icing colours in Royal Blue and White
Wilton snowflake icing decorations
Butter icing:
175g butter
350g icing sugar
2-3tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Wilton icing colour in White

Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius!!
Method:
1. Cream the sugar and butter together until pale and fluffy.
2. Alternate between the eggs and sifted flour, beating between each addition.
3. Add vanilla. Beat well.
4. Separate mixture into three bowls.
5. Add white icing colour to one bowl, some white and blue to another, and royal blue to the last. Mix well.
6. Place a dessert spoon of each mixture into the prepared cupcake cases to create a marbled effect.
7. Bake for 12 mins. Let cool.
8. I used Mary Berry's butter cream icing recipe and added white instead of pink. Find here: http://www.lovefood.com/guide/recipes/21638/mary-berrys-vanilla-cupcakes-with-swirly-icing-recipe
9. Decorate with the icing and snowflake sprinkles. Add some glitter and serve!

Remember to use the hashtag #BakingWithFifs on instagram if you try this at home!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 16: Stocking Filler Ideas

Hello everyone!

We're down to single digits - 9 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS! So hopefully you all have your Christmas presents bought!

However, there are some presents you may not have bought...stocking fillers! If you're unfamiliar with what a stocking filler is, it's a small present (usually under a tenner) that's left in your Christmas stocking Christmas Day.
Here are a few ideas that I've come across this year:

1. A CD/DVD: I know that these are a thing of the past what with Spotify and Netflix and all, but sometimes having a physical copy of your favourite film or album makes it that bit more special.

2. Socks: Everyone loves a pair of socks, whether they say so or not! And a pair or two of good quality socks can go a long way in the eyes of a Dad!

3. Makeup palette: As a girl, I know that receiving a small eyeshadow palette in my stocking is like a gift from God! So if you're buying a stocking filler for that special girl in your life, you can't go wrong with makeup!

4. Phone case: A pretty/safe/sturdy phone case is perfect for someone who has a tendency to drop their phones on a regular basis.

5. A teddy: Because who doesn't love a cuddle buddy during the holidays?

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 15: The BEST Christmas Hot Chocolate (or at least in my opinion....)

Hello everyone!

How many of you love hot chocolate at Christmas? How many of you love hot chocolate any time of the year? How many of you just love chocolate???
If your answer was 'ME' to any or all of those questions, then keep on reading!

I love hot chocolate. Any day, any time, just give me a hot chocolate and I will be happy out. And hot chocolate at Christmas, in a Christmas mug, while you're sat beside the Christmas tree watching a Christmas movie is honestly the best feeling ever.
Experimenting with different methods of making hot chocolate is always fun, but I think that I have discovered the best and simplest way of doing it! (You're all going to think after reading it 'sure, I could have done that, what are you on about?' but there's videos about how to make tea on YouTube.... so yeah, I'm writing a blog post about how to make hot chocolate!!)

1. Measure the right amount of milk by pouring it into your chosen mug. Pour this milk into a microwavable jug. I use a small whisk to just add some air into the milk because I find that this makes it nice and frothy. Pop it into the microwave for 1 minute.

2. While waiting for the milk to heat up, get the chocolate part ready! I put two-three heaped teaspoons of the Cadbury's hot chocolate powder into my mug with a little bit of milk. Using my trusty whisk, I mix this into a paste.

3. At this stage, the milk should be beeping at you (or the microwave should be at least...)Take out your jug, give it a whisk again and pop it back into the microwave for another minute.

4. Take your hot milk out of the microwave and pour it over your chocolate paste, whisking as you do so. Honestly, whisking at every stage just makes the milk frothy and yummy!

5. And now the fun part... the finishing touches!! I just like to put some whipped cream on top (and marshmallows if we have any, but we don't at the moment.. sad face...) and sprinkle some cocoa powder over it.

Yummy!
Anyways, I'm off to enjoy my hot chocolate and watch Elf!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 14: Winter/Christmas Make-up Routine

Hello everyone!

I was at a party this weekend(my cousin's 18th!) which can only mean one thing... PARTY SEASON HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED!! And when party season is here, the glitz and the glam come out.

But that doesn't mean that you have to hold off on fab makeup for parties. Christmas season means that you can get away with wearing gold shimmerry eyes and dark red lips during the day as well as night time!
I will be posting a video of my everyday makeup routine that I've been following for the last two weeks over on my YouTube channel in the next day or two! So if I were you, I'd go check that out ;)

I've been wearing a pink/gold shimmery eye with a red lip (Rimmel 107!) and some subtle contour/highlight/blush etc. It's such a Christmassy looking look and I absolutely love it!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 11: Christmas Bedroom Tour

Hello everyone!

TWO WEEKS, TWO WEEKS! :D I can hardly contain my excitement!!!!

As you know from yesterday's post, I may be unorganised when it comes to actually doing Christmassy things the last few days. However, my bedroom is like my own little Winter Wonderland!

I have fairy lights, I have snowmen, I have Santa, I have Christmas duvets, I have fake snow, I have Christmas scented candles, but most importantly, I have tacky tinsel! Nothing says Christmas like tacky tinsel!
Here are a few photos of my room, and you can also head on over to my YouTube channel this evening/tomorrow for an arty room tour style vid!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 10: The Countdown is On!!!

Hello everyone!

15 days until Christmas!! The countdown is officially on!!

The Christmas tunes are blaring, the Christmas jumpers are on, the decorations are up, lights are flashing everywhere you go... and yet, I still have plenty of Christmas presents to buy!

The time is flying and I just can't find a moment to buy the remaining presents. There was a time a few years ago when I had all of my presents bought and wrapped by the 2nd of December. Now, I have 4 out of 7 presents bought and none wrapped... AND THERE'S ONLY 15 DAYS LEFT!!

I still have Christmas baking to do, Christmas movies to watch, Christmas cards to write and Christmas visits to make. I don't even know where the time has gone to be honest, and with just two weeks left, I don't know will I get a chance to do everything I want to do, never mind getting the chance to do what I need to do!

On top of all the Christmassy things I have to do, I also have work, Blogmas to keep on top of (I'm not complaining though! I did bring this on myself!), and my social life to keep track of!
I've been watching Zoella's Vlogmas (because I don't have time to watch anyone else's, and I'd rather I watch her's than none at all!) and I don't understand how she has so much time to do everything! She vlogs every day, puts up a video every day and blogs every day, if not every second day, AND SHE STILL GETS TO DO EVERYTHING SHE WANTS TO DO!!! It's not fair...... (Don't worry, I still love her and always will love her! But I'll save my love for Zoella for another day!)

*sigh* Life is tough guys. I spent the day in Galway with my mam shopping, and Christmas shopping still isn't complete... So to cheer myself up, I am sitting in front of the Christmas tree in my Christmas pyjamas drinking a white wine spritzer and munching on a box of Roses
I will get motivated to do more Christmas shopping next week, but for this week I will just suffer in my un-Christmassy mood (lol... as if I'll ever be in that mood!) and eat lots of chocolate!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 9: Top 10 Christmas Movies

Hello everyone!

Day 9, the time is flying!

Today, I want to share a secret with you.... I haven't watched a Christmas movie yet...... I know, it's disgraceful! I just haven't had the time to sit down and watch one! I feel like I'm working every evening and by the time I get home, I write up a blog post and go to bed. I don't have any time for myself anymore!

However, I have compiled a list of my top 10 Christmas movies that I will definitely watch before the Christmas season is over....

10. The Snowman
9. Home Alone
8. Love Actually
7. Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas
6. Fred Clause
5. Miracle on 34th Street
4. Santa Clause the Movie
3. Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas
2. The Santa Clause (trilogy!)
1. Elf

That was a lot more difficult than I thought...

What's your favourite Christmas movie?

Until next time.

(P.S. The video I promised yesterday will be live tomorrow.. something has come up today which has made me have to postpone editing... So sorry guys!)

BLOGMAS Day 8: A Day Out in Dublin!

Hello everyone!

IT'S DECEMBER 8TH! Which means, traditionally, it's the day to put up your Christmas tree and go Christmas shopping!

Today was also my last Tuesday in Dublin for this semester. As a treat to myself for making it this far into the college year without my friends around, I decided that I would go into town and explore the shops and just soak up the Christmassy atmosphere! There will be an artsy fartsy video (hopefully!) on my YouTube channel tomorrow afternoon (again, hopefully!) so if you would like to see any photos, I'm afraid you won't find them here as I didn't take any, I was too busy recording! But you can always check out my channel tonight and subscribe so you don't miss out tomorrow ;)

Anyways, for this post, I thought I would just share some of my thoughts on some of the shops and things I saw in Dublin today....

First stop was LUSH, which, as always, was amazing! I didn't buy anything, which I completely regret right now, but I did have a good sniff of all their Christmas products! I love every single one of them, especially the 'Peeping Santa' bath bomb! But unfortunately, I was on a budget and couldn't buy any lovely products for a pamper evening :'(

The Arnott's window display is something else! From a ferris wheel made out entirely out of Lego to a jungle of Beanie Babys, these windows will definitely entice you to go in and explore the wonderful department store. And the decorations they have for sale in there.... they are amazing! I had to restrain myself from buying little woodland animal tree ornaments!!

Debenhams have a great selection of gifts for everyone. They have a wide variety of beauty products, stocking fillers for male and female, kid's toys, and even something for the little peata (that's 'pet' in Irish for anyone who doesn't know)! I was so close to buying an advent calendar for my dog, even if we are 8 days into Advent....

The Jervis Shopping Centre is just so magical! They have decorations from the second you walk in the door all the way up to the third floor! It's amazing! Even though I had seen these decorations the previous two weeks, I was still in awe with the effort that went in to making the centre look and feel as magical as it does!

And finally... Starbucks. Oh the joy I felt of walking into that lovely warm coffee shop. I made the choice of the Honey and Almond Hot Chocolate, and as I was awaiting the chocolatey Christmassy goodness, I remembered that I don't particularly like the taste of almond..... And to top it all off, THEY SPELLED MY NAME WRONG! Even after I had spelled it out for them! So everyone, my new name is now 'Niffa'.... I have to say though, the hot chocolate was pretty tasty, if not just a bit too chocolatey, but a girl can never have too much chocolate in her life!!

And that's it, that was my day in Dublin in a nutshell!
Did you do anything exciting today?

Remember to check out my YouTube channel tomorrow for the video of this very festive trip!

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 6: Single during the holiday season

Hello everyone!

It's that time of blogmas where I need to talk about something that a lot of us are probably going through... being single at Christmas!*
It's a tough time for all us singletons out there, but there are a few upsides to the single life at this time of year!

1. Choosing the movie: You can choose the Christmas movie that you want to watch. And you can watch it while being a fat mess eating all the crappy food you can find without trying to impress your other half!

2. Eating all the food: You can eat all the Christmas food and chocolate and biscuits that there has ever been without having to share them with that 'special someone!' What's not to love about that?

3. Kisses under the mistletoe: You can kiss whoever happens to be under that mistletoe without worrying the boyf (or girlf) and making them all jealous!

4. Money saver: Let's face it, the best part about being single at Christmas time is the fact that you don't have to buy him or her a present! Think of all the money you can save!!!!

What do you think are the perks of being single at Christmas?

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 5: The tree is up!

Hello everyone!

Day 5 is here and it's a very special one! WE PUT UP OUR TREE TODAY!! :D
This is my favourite time of the lead up to Christmas, when we all get together as a family, Christmas music blaring and wearing Christmas attire (well, at least I was!) and put up the tree.
Instead of writing up a big boring blog post about the process of putting up the tree, because I'm sure you're all well aware of how to do that, I thought I would just share some pictures of some of my favourite decorations on the tree!

A bare tree waiting to be decorated....

 Our little fam <3

This is a Christmas decoration from my Grandad's Christmas tree that was bought the Christmas before my mam moved out of her family home.

Have you put up your tree yet?

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 4: Surviving this horrible weather...

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to day four of blogmas!
No, you're not reading that wrong... And no, I didn't forget to upload a post yesterday...
I was running on 8 hours sleep over 2 days and to be honest, I was hungover (shock, horror! I'm a 20 year old college student.. of course I'm going to be hungover on a weekday!) and I tried to write a blog post about pantos, but it just wasn't sounding right at all and I didn't want to post just for the sake of it... So instead, I promise to have a video up as well as a blog post next Thursday/Friday!

And now, on to today's blog post!

The weather in Ireland at the moment is absolutely horrible! It's cold and windy and rainy and just plain disgusting. I hate this weather, especially when I have to walk to work!
However, the upside of this weather is how cosy I feel when I'm inside my house in my pyjamas beside the fire, or tucked up in bed. It kind of feels like Christmas, especially when the decorations are up (which they aren't yet... but keep an eye out for tomorrow's post ;)).
If you're like me and hate cold, miserable weather, there are a few things you can do to survive!

1. Wrap up: If you're brave enough to head out in the wind and rain and cold, then wrap up well! Wear your biggest coat, zip it up, throw on a scarf, wear a hat, bring a pair of gloves! Just don't catch a cold!

2. Bath time: After coming in from being out in that weather, run a hot bath for yourself and just submerge in the warmth of the water and relax. Trust me, it's the best thing ever!!

3. Light the fire: And some candles! You'd be surprised with the amount of heat that can come out of those little tea lights if you light enough!

4. Stay in: This one is very unrealistic because obviously you're going to have to go outside at some stage, but a girl can dream right?

That's it for today folks! I'm off to tidy my room and get ready to decorate it. Who knows, there might be a blog post coming your way very soon with a little room tour ;)

What's the weather like where you live? Any tips on how to survive it?

Until next time.

BLOGMAS Day 2: Fun things to do this holiday season!

Hello everyone!

Today, I thought that I would give you all some fun ideas of things you can do this holiday season to get you into that festive spirit! Some of these things cost some dollars (or euros...or pounds...whatever your currency is...I just ruined it...) and other things cost you nothing! So let's get started....

1. Ice Skating: One of my favourite things to do with a group of friends around this time of year is to go ice skating! I have been ice skating every December for the last three years - last year I even went twice! It is so much fun and gets you into that festive spirit with the Christmas music and Christmas jumpers and just the festive feel of skating on ice! You feel like you're in a Christmas movie! And with a group of friends, the experience is so much fun.

2. Visit a Christmas market: With so many Christmas markets around these days, I'm sure you're bound to stumble across one in a town close to you. For me, this Christmas market is the one in Galway which has been running since 2009. It is so magical to walk through the market and smell all the different foods, look at the homemade decorations and just feel like you're in a different world! Grab a luxury hot chocolate and walk around between the stalls to feel all special kinds of Christmassy!

3. Buy a Christmas jumper/pyjamas: A Christmas jumper is my essential Christmas wardrobe. That's right, I said wardrobe... No matter what's going on that day, where I'm going or what I'm wearing on bottom, I will have a Christmas jumper on! And every night, I have a pair of warm, fluffy, cosy Christmas pyjamas and slippers on. It's just an essential part of Christmas...get with it....

4. Visit family and friends: Possibly the simplest yet most difficult thing you can do this Christmas is to visit your family or arrange to meet up with friends you haven't seen in a while. It's the season for love and friendship, so try to make it your business to pop over to your auntie or your grandparents with a box of chocolates or some freshly baked goods for a cuppa and a catch up. You're sure to feel in that festive spirit, especially if they have their tree up!

5. Watch a Christmas movie: Whether it's super Christmassy like Elf or mildly festive like Love Actually, watching any form of a Christmas movie is sure to put you into that festive spirit! Make yourself a hot chocolate, get into those Christmas pyjamas, light a few candles (maybe a Christmas scented one), stick on the fire and cosy up on the couch with a blanket and settle in for the night with your favourite Christmas movie!

6. Listen to Christmas music: All day, every day! This is something that I have been doing since November 1st, and I am not ashamed! I have my playlist on Spotify but I've also been listening to Christmas FM. This is a special Christmas radio station in Ireland (which can be streamed worldwide from their website!) that is run by volunteer radio DJs, all in aid of charity! This year's charity is for the Make a Wish foundation and all money made by requests and texts and donations go straight to this wonderful charity! This is a tradition that my parents and I have every year. Once it starts to air at the end of November until it finished on the 26th December, we have it playing in the house and the car, getting into the festive spirit!!

And there we have it! Just a few ideas of different things you can do this Christmas season to get into the festive spirit!
Do you do anything special to get into the festive spirit?

Until next time.
